Meet the Tutors
Not many people say they love their work, but I do, and I have always done.
Being a tutor is really quite fulfilling because it gives me the opportunity to help people develop and become professionals in the Retail Jewellery trade. It’s rewarding when a student, of whatever age, enrols on the JET courses and then works to achieve good results and hopefully their diploma.
I have always been in retailing and spent most of my time on the shop floor, first in the fashion industry but for the past 22 years in Retail Jewellery. I realise how important good training and product knowledge is to be able to satisfy the demands that the customers of today place upon us.
I worked and studied through my daughters’ school years and had to combine the roles of 'career woman' and 'mum' so I fully understand some of the pressures that some of my students are under.
I was very honoured to be asked to update the JET courses, first JET 1 and more recently JET 2. This showed me just how much things have changed and just how important it is for every one of us to keep up to date with current legislation, hallmarking issues, changes in technology etc. In fact nothing stays the same for long in this fast changing world.
But work should be fun and I do think that it is important to keep a sense of humour in the workplace. We can all be professional without being stuffy!
Outside of work I enjoy swimming, walking my two dogs, cooking I find very therapeutic and gardening a pleasant necessity. Living in rural Dorset means that we are not too far from the coast which I like in the winter months especially, but also reasonably accessible to larger towns when retail therapy is required!
